Spill Zone

First of a series by Scott Westerfeld and Alex Puvulland. New York, NY: First Second, 2017

A somewhat dark dystopian story about Addison who illegally takes photographs of the "Spill Zone" in upstate New York where she used to live. She now lives right outside the zone and the money she makes from her photographs helps her take care of her younger sister who barely survived the tragedy (an where nanotechnology possibly collided with a nuclear power plant). As the story unfolds we see the wrecked city, the "meat puppets" and untold zapped monsters and possessed dolls.
