Cucumber Quest: The Doughnut Kingdom

First of the series by Gigi D.G. New York, NY: First Second, 2017

Cucumber (son of Lord Cabbage) must put off going to Puffington's Academy (for the magically gifted and/or incredibly wealthy) to save Doughnut Kingdom from evil Queen Cordelias. He doesn’t want to be a hero or give up his place at school. His little sister Almond on the other hand is dying to go on this quest, but Mom insists it's too dangerous for the young girl. Almond has her own plans!

This first book has loads of stereotype breaking, action and humor and is a fun cross between The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and The Once and Future Kin).
